Ashley Iserhoff, Deputy Grand Chief of the Crees

Release Date: April 26th, 2010. NationTalk speaks with Deputy Grand Chief of the Crees, Ashley Iserhoff. Fifteen northern communities in the James Bay region of Quebec have joined together to build a $28.8 million fibre-optic infrastructure project. Nine Cree centres will form the hub of this new network, which will serve an area with 30,000 people in the region. Construction of over-1,400 Km of fibre-optic lines began this spring and will be completed in 2011. 800 Km of lines are already built within the Hydro-Quebec structures. Funding for the project came from local governments and agencies and both the Quebec and Canada governments. The new broadband network will be headed by the young Deputy Grand Chief of the Crees, Ashley Iserhoff and we caught up with him in Chibougamau at the announcement of the network and there our radio producer Hyman Glustein asked him about the broadband project.
