Posted by admin on 2008/3/3 13:18:44 (187 reads)

NR 08-15 EXT ENG – For Immediate Release

(March 3, 2008 – Cambridge Bay, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Acting President James Eetoolook today said the organization supports the Nunavut Legislative Assembly’s motion which gives the Ajauqtiit Standing Committee a 120-day extension to carefully consider Bill 6, the Official Languages Act, and Bill 7, the Inuit Language Protection Act.

“The decision for more time was the right one,” said Eetoolook. “Bills 6 and 7 need improvement, and we look forward to providing further advice or clarification to the standing committee to ensure the best possible legislation is developed and passed.”

Nunavut Tunngavik will be communicating its positions to the MLAs and encourages Inuit to do the same.
