Business : NaiKun and Haida Power Authority Open Haida Gwaii Energy Centre

News Release
Aug 16, 2007

Vancouver, British Columbia – NaiKun Wind Energy Group Inc., (“NaiKun” or “the Company”) announced today the official opening of the Haida Gwaii Energy Centre (“the Centre”), located on the Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida Gwaii). The Centre was developed in collaboration with the Haida Power Authority (HPA) to provide and disseminate information to the public about energy on the Islands.

“The Centre is a great way to bring community members together to learn more about our offshore wind project and energy issues,” remarked Michael C. Burns Chairman of NaiKun Wind Energy Group. “We want to make sure we are readily available to provide answers, research and facts about wind energy. For many people, energy challenges have been a fact of life on Haida Gwaii but it’s important that residents also know about the energy opportunities that exist just off their shores.”

NaiKun is proposing an offshore wind project in northwestern British Columbia near the coast of Haida Gwaii. The first phase (320 MW) is currently under development and construction is expected to commence in 2009. A key aspect of the proposed project is HaidaLink: Haida Gwaii’s interconnection to the main energy grid via NaiKun’s wind farm. This initiative is being developed jointly by NaiKun and the Haida Power Authority.

The Haida Power Authority (HPA) established by the Council of the Haida Nation, manages the energy resources and needs within Haida traditional territories. The HPA has been working with NaiKun since 2004.

“Knowledge is the key to making good decisions and planning for the future and that is the cornerstone of the Haida Gwaii Energy Centre. We sponsored this project because it is important for all community members to have access to research and accurate information about the challenges and opportunities provided by our natural environment, like the strong winds in the Haida Energy Field,” noted HPA Chairman Arnie Bellis. “Facts and transparency are very important on the road to consensus and that’s what we want from the Centre.”

The Haida Gwaii Energy Centre is located in the village of Masset and will be open regularly. NaiKun will host offshore wind energy experts from around the world and hold community information sessions lead at the Centre.

NaiKun Wind Energy Group Inc. (TSX-V: NKW) is a Vancouver-based energy company that has traded on the TSX Venture Exchange (and its predecessors) since 1967. Since 2000, the company has focused on renewable energy. Its subsidiary, NaiKun Wind Development Inc., is engaged in the development of a major offshore wind project off the coast of British Columbia in an area known as the Haida Energy Field. Interested parties are invited to visit the company's website at www.naikun.ca.
