TORONTO, Nov. 16 The Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will host a screening of an episode of the upcoming four-part TVO documentary, Empire of the Word, on Tuesday, November 17th. The documentary explores the origins of reading and writing and its impact on human history. The episode being screened will highlight the literacy programs of former Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable James K. Bartleman.


"I am delighted to host the screening of a documentary about the history of reading over the past 5,000 years. It is significant that this impressive documentary features the Honourable James K. Bartleman and his work in implementing four Aboriginal Literacy Programs," said the Honourable David C. Onley. "The impact of my predecessor's work on the literacy and numeracy skills of Aboriginal youth in the north of our province is renown and I am proud to be continuing each of the Lieutenant Governor's Aboriginal Literacy Programs he launched."

'Empire of the Word' is a four-part series of one hour episodes produced by Nomad Films which will be aired on TVO, Wednesdays at 10 p.m. from November 25 to December 16.
