Several coastal First Nations are enjoying stable employment and economic opportunity for their people through partnerships with Marine Harvest Canada.
For more than ten years now the Kitasoo/Xai’xais people at Klemtu have been growing and processing high quality farm-raised salmon in partnership with Marine Harvest. More than 50 band members are employed on farm sites and at the processing plant sending 5000 tonnes of fresh salmon to the market every year.
Similar agreements bring benefits to the Kwakiutl, Quatsino and Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw First Nations. In addition, Marine Harvest has contractual agreements with First Nation owned businesses such as Qwe’Qwa’Sot’Em Faith Aquaculture Ltd. and James Walkus Fishing Company.
We are proud of the strides we and First Nations have made in providing jobs and opportunity in some of BC’s small, remote coastal communities.
